rage (adv.)
rage (adj.)
In rage deaf as the sea, hasty as fire.
What rage for fame attends both great and small!
Better be damned than mentioned not at all.
Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned,
Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.
Not die here in a rage, like a poisoned rat in a hole.
Know ye the land where the cypress and myrtle
Are emblems of deeds that are done in their clime;
Where the rage of the vulture, the love of the turtle,
Now melt into sorrow, now madden to crime?
But Knowledge to their eyes her ample page,
Rich with the spoils of time, did ne'er unroll;
Chill penury repress'd their noble rage,
And froze the genial current of the soul.
Oh, could I flow like thee, and make thy stream
My great example, as it is my theme!
Though deep, yet clear; though gentle, yet not dull;
Strong without rage; without o'erflowing, full.
Could swell the soul to rage, or kindle soft desire.
